Dr. Zoidberg
by Jason Peavey
Dr. Zoidberg is one of the most interesting
characters on "Futurama", mostly because he's a hideous lobster-like creature.
But there's more to him than that. Much more. He's a staff doctor for Planet Express. Why?
God only knows! After all, he doesn't really know anything about humans (he once thought
Fry was a "young lady" and even asked him if disemboweling was fatal). But even
though Dr. Zoidberg is dangerously unqualified for the job, Hermes and Professor
Farnsworth hired him for one reason and one reason alone...he's a mutant, and they don't
have to pay him much.
Zoidberg is also the most misunderstood character. He's usually just a
"tag-along" for trips. We're not really sure if anyone likes Dr. Z because
nobody understands him. One can't help but feel sorry for Zoidberg because he's different.
He has trouble finding a partner to mate with, often gets the blame for things like
abusing electricity and the extinction of anchovies, and will do anything for a free hot
meal.
But dispite the staff's constant failure to consider Dr. Zoidberg's feelings, he has
saved everyone quite a few times. He once clogged up a leak, and kept a door open with his
claws. Zoidberg is a good-natured soul. If everyone was like Dr. Z, the world would be a
much happier place. A world without anchovies.
